Good buy for the money Mar 20, 2010 I used this and the male-version of the same from Hobart to create an extension cable for my 240V welding machine. I am not 100% sure of the terminology but I believe this would be considered a NEMA 6-50C coupler (and the male end a NEMA 6-50P). I've only found these online at the large industrial sites and never for less than $50 a pop before tax and shipping.
Mine is labelled "Made in Mexico." The wire locking mechanism (screw-down terminals), instructions and rubber boot are all perfectly adequate. I do not expect any problems. I share the same hesitations as another reviewer about the lack of a clamp or strain-relief for the wires however my main wire covering was a very tight fit and I threw two heavy-duty zip-ties on for good measure.
If you are a contractor and will be lugging this cable to a different site every day or if you're company is footing the bill, then go ahead and get a -- presumably -- higher quality unit from an industrial supplier. If your use is anything less than professional this coupler will do just fine. In fact, I am buying another one now to make an adapter for an electric-dryer receptacle for times when that is the only plug accessible to me.
Use as a spare for emergency repair Jan 16, 2009 This is fair receptacle for the price but its minimum quality and best for use as a spare. Came without a clamp for the boot and the pictured clamp was barely a clamp, a tywrap would work as well.
